GGII MUST WATCH – DAZU CARVINGS

Dazu Rock Carvings (大足石刻, Dàzú shíkè) are a series of sculptures and rock carvings situated in Dazu County, a district located in the west suburb of Chongqing, 167 km far away from the center of the Municipality. 

The building of this place started in the early years of Tang Dynasty (618-907) and continue during Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and Qing Dynasty (1616-1991). It is known all over the world for its aeshetic quality and its majestic atmosphere. The authors of the carvings were influenced by Buddhist, Taoist and Cunfucian beliefs.  The whole area of the carvings is of 540 square miles, and the ones inBeishan, Baodingshan, Nanshan, Shimenshan and Shizhuanshan were listed as World Heritage Site in 1999.
